This is a blog about kittens and cats. I have raised many kittens and have many cats. I believe in treating animals kindly. Pet them, feed them, give them a comfortable place to sleep. Take them to the vet when needed. Make sure you get a vet who will work with you. You need to be involved in your pet's health care. If you think your pet needs a shot instead of pills, say so. If you think your pet needs to be hospitalized and needs more than one antibiotic, say so.  I do a lot of research on the health and treatment of cats, (as well as humans).

We had a wild or feral cat hanging around our house one Summer. He would sneak up to eat, but never let us get near him. Then, one morning I found him laying, not moving, on our concrete garage floor. I picked him up and he didn't even whimper, that's how sick he was. Normally, this cat would have been tearing me to bits. I took him to our vet (who has since moved to the East coast--you lucky people). She gave him Vitamin B injections. Cortizone injections, penicillin injections, and gave me probiotic powder to sprinkle on his food, plus lysine paste to give him. Within two days the cat was up and eating again.

Other vets I had been to wanted to try just the penicillin. Then come back. Now try penicillin and cortizone. Then come back. Then try Vitamin B. Then come back.. You get the picture. Running up my vet bill (not to mention my gas bill driving to the vet--which is at least a 24 mile drive for me).

We were so fortunate to find Dr. Busher, but, sigh, now she is out on the East coast with her family. Her practice was called "Happy Tails." But, fortunately, after trying two other vets, the 2nd one turned out to be a great vet. He saved my cat's life after neutering. You can read that story under Great Vets in Central Illinois.
